Severe rainfall expected: A yellow alert has been issued for 19 districts in Tamil Nadu for the next two days.

The weather department forecasts that many areas in Tamil Nadu will experience near-normal to slightly above-normal rainfall from November 8 to 14.

Several districts in Tamil Nadu are likely to experience heavy rainfall over the next two days due to the influence of cyclonic circulation and upper air patterns in the sea. The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow warning as a result.

A cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Mannar has weakened, while another upper air circulation persists over the southwest Bay of Bengal near south Andhra Pradesh. These weather systems are expected to bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to at least 19 districts, including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Theni, Dindigul, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanniyakumari, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, and Sivagangai over the next 48 hours.

According to extended range forecasts, coastal districts may see below-normal rainfall, while the rest of Tamil Nadu is expected to receive above-average rain until November 7. From November 8 to 14, the weather department predicts near-normal to slightly above-normal rainfall across many parts of the state.

In Chennai, recent heavy downpours have occurred, and the forecast suggests light to moderate rain in some areas over the next two days, with temperatures expected to range from a high of around 32 degrees Celsius to a low of about 25 degrees Celsius.

Additionally, fishermen in Tamil Nadu are advised to avoid going to sea for the next two days due to stormy conditions, with wind speeds potentially reaching 35 to 45 km/h and gusts up to 55 km/h along the south Tamil Nadu coast, the Comorin area, and the Gulf of Mannar.

Weather blogger Pradeep John noted that Chennai may experience isolated intense rain spells again in the next 24 hours.
