The Tambaram city police successfully dismantled a major ganja smuggling operation on Monday, seizing 150 kg of the drug from a truck near the Railway ground in Tambaram. Acting on a tip-off, the Pallikaranai Prohibition and Enforcement Wing (PEW) intercepted a load van around 9 am and arrested two individuals, R. Muthuvel Pandi (37) and U. Chandra Kumar (34), both hailing from Tuticorin district. Investigations revealed that they had procured the ganja from Andhra Pradesh for distribution in southern Tamil Nadu.
In a separate incident, police recovered an additional 5.3 kg of ganja from a man named Suresh Mahapatra from Odisha, who intended to sell it to guest workers in Chennai. Both cases have resulted in the accused being remanded in judicial custody after appearing before a magistrate. The police continue to pursue leads to further investigate the supply chains involved in these trafficking operations.
