Tiruvallur police have uncovered that a missing college student was murdered by his friends, after an investigation lasting two months.

A special investigation team looking into the missing person’s complaint questioned the student’s friends, who provided evasive answers during their inquiries.

Two and a half months after being reported missing, police discovered that 19-year-old college student D. Dinesh from Tiruvallur district had been murdered by his friends, including a minor, and his body was dumped in a canal near the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border.

Dinesh, a first-year student at Government Arts College in Vyasarpadi, was last seen on August 20 when he left for college. His family filed a missing person report after he did not return home. A special investigation team questioned his friends, who provided evasive answers during their interrogations.

Following further questioning, police learned that three of his friends—Karthik (24), Naga (22), and a 17-year-old—collaborated with another individual to kill Dinesh. The trio was arrested on Thursday.
