Doctor’s Death in Road Accident Exposes Non-Operational Hostel on Tamil Nadu Government Medical College Campus

A hostel building that was completed about a year ago on the campus remains unopened, forcing doctors to reside far from their workplace.

A 26-year-old CRRI (Compulsory Rotating Residential Internship) doctor tragically lost his life in a recent road accident while returning from Ariyalur Government Medical College Hospital, located about 30 km from his home. This incident has raised serious concerns about the absence of a hostel on the hospital premises.

Despite being completed around a year ago, the hostel building on campus has yet to open, forcing doctors to live far from their workplace. Medical professionals have expressed that after a long day at work, commuting to distant hostels is quite challenging.

Ariyalur Government Medical College Hospital is one of eleven new medical colleges in the state and employs foreign medical graduates as CRRIs. While other medical colleges have provided accommodation for CRRIs and medical students, the facility in Ariyalur is still awaiting necessary approvals and action from the Public Works Department (PWD).
