A 21-year-old college student tragically lost his life after losing control of his car and crashing into the center median in Velachery early Friday morning. His two friends, who were also in the vehicle, survived with injuries, according to police reports.

The deceased, K Lithish from RA Puram, was a third-year student at a private college in Padur near Kelambakkam. His father, Karthik, is a television actor. The accident occurred around 2 a.m. as Lithish and his friends were returning home after playing football at a turf in Medavakkam. Near Taramani, Lithish lost control of the car, crashing into the median near the Vijayanagar bus stand.

Passersby helped rescue the trio from the wrecked vehicle and rushed them to a nearby private hospital. Lithish was pronounced dead upon arrival, while the two others were treated for their injuries. His body was subsequently sent to Government Royapettah Hospital for a postmortem. The Guindy Traffic Investigation Wing has registered a case and is currently investigating the incident.

A family friend, Venkateswaralu, a retired bank employee, emphasized the importance of wearing seatbelts. He noted that it appeared Lithish’s seatbelt was not fastened properly, resulting in the steering wheel striking his chest during the crash. He urged young people to consider the impact of such accidents on families.
