Utopian Kalpakkam

Kalpakkkam is a township which is famous for nuclear powerplant situated near the coastal area. near Chennai.

 It is a township associated with research programs. The township is restricted area mainly because it has got best Nuclear Power plants in Tamil Nadu.  The Madras Atomic Power Station, Kalpakkam has two generating station of 220 MW Power. IGCAR (Indra Gandhi Center for Atomic Research) Kalpakkam constantly researches upon the Nuclear power plants and reactors. The township is protected by central police (CISF).  Lot of security checking is done to enter into the power plants and the employees are strictly restricted to use any electrical gadgets inside the power plants.

 

 

 

The township has been well constructed for the employees that all the facilities are provided within the campus itself.  The residence is allotted for the employees at Kalpakkam township as well as in Anupuram township.  For the employees and their families, the facilities include hospitals, schools(KV), libraries, 24*7 water and electricity facility and proper drainage systems.   The township has also got swimming pool and sufficient playgrounds.

 

 

 

NESCO (Nuclear employee sports and cultural organization) plays another vital role in this society.  Every year NESCO conducts carnival and attracts people from inside and outside township.  It conducts sports events for children and the families to encourage them.

 

 

Apart from nuclear power plants, the township has got lavish space and it is well maintained with green foliage.  The place is separated by two bridges over the canal which joins the sea nearby and well over the backwater with thousands of jellyfish moving underneath. Also, the backwater is a visiting place by many migratory birds especially the rarely seen Siberian crane in the depths of winter which adds more beauty to the place.  The Kalpakkam Township is one of the most beautiful residential campus, with marsh on one side and the Bay of Bengal on the other. The back water fighting with the golden sand to reach its destiny, the sea.

 

 

After the effect of tsunami, the higher authorities implemented to build Tsunami walls and casuarina trees for the welfare of the society.  The township has got separate memorial place for the people who got expired in Tsunami.  Tsunami was the only disaster that destroyed the entire place.  Neither the floods nor the cyclone didn’t affect the area much.   The calm and peaceful surrounding gives a tranquil life for a city-based person.  Though the township is isolated from the city, the campus carries its own grandeur.
