Recently The Mylapore Trio - S.Surendranath, S.Amarnath S.Aparna and M.Sugathan – of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation conducted 13th “Navarathri Golu Paddhathi” a first of its kind workshop, on Saturday 17th September, 2016, in their house, at Mandavelipakkam. They shared their experiences of putting up a good Golu in an aesthetic manner.
Surendranath explained the nuances of arrangements, Decorations, Themes, painting, repairs, gardening, Packing & Preservation, hospitality, traditional attire, art & craft, significance of Golu and many more Amarnath shared their experiences of being the golu judges of Mylapore and Madras for over a decade and explained the Dos and Donts of a Thematic Golus.
Aparna spoke about the importance of hospitality, explained the importance of themes and conveying it in a proper manner without distortion of history and mythology, following of traditional attire during Navarathri and providing Thaamboolam to the guests.
Sugathan welcomed the participants, interviewed them and registered their comments and opinion. He gave suggestions regarding buying of authentic dolls and to avoid dolls which are purely unethical and irrelevant, which makes a mockery of our rich culture, mythology and tradition.
A bunch of women in all age groups from all over Chennai attended the workshop. It was an interesting interactive session for the audience, which extended for more than two hours and there was a demand for repeating the workshop in other areas of Chennai. It has created a niche for the Mylapore Trio in the Golu circles.
The trio has a very rich experience in the golu field since several years. It is the 64th year golu in their family tradition, they are the pioneers in keeping thematic golus since1994, they were the judges of the Mylapore Times golu competition for more than 12 years, they themselves conducted golu contests for whole of Chennai for some years, they have won first prize in world wide golucontests conducted by Jaya TV and Raj TV in 1999 and 2001. To top it all they are blessed to put up massive thematic magnificent golus at famous temples like Mylapore Kapaleeswarar temple, Triplicane Parthasarathy temple, Madurai Meenakshi Amman temple, Srirangam Ranganathaswamy temple for the past 8 years. All these aspects have created a niche for the Mylapore trio in the golu arena.
This year they are blessed to put up a massive and magnificient thematic golu for the third year at “Bhooloka Vaikuntam’ Srirangam on the Historic Occasion of 1000th Janma Varsham of Shri. Ramanujar. The Theme of their Houseful golu this year is “Satham – Sahasram.”
