Text of Usha Raja’s  speech

I have great pleasure in welcoming you all for our sixthNavarathriKolu awards function, Once again, our Kolu Competition had such a wonderful response in terms of both quality & quantity. In fact, the number of entries have been going up steadily. I am happy to mention that some of the award winners this year are from the US, as we no longer restrict the awards to Chennai. Creativity and imagination are the pillars around which most of the entries have been built. Our viewers would agree that the entries exhibit a remarkable and amazing array of talent, themes, craft etc.

As usual, there has been a tremendous blend of tradition with modernity. You have the replica of Vaishnava Devi temple with caves on the one hand and a modern theme of cleanliness at the other end. Divinity in several forms have been captured with telling impact by many, several manifestations of god and concepts such as Nava are on display. The current ecological importance is also brought out in the “Vaazhvai Valamaakum vrukshangal”, you will hear more of the winning themes later in the program.

I would like to sincerely thank our panel of Judges, who had the most unenviable task on hand to choose the prize winners in such an intense & keen competition .The amount of the time that they have spent needs to be acknowledged and hence the time that we took to announce the results. They had such an arduous task & finally recommended a large number of prize winners this time too. We were also not keen to screen and shorten the list and went ahead with their recommendation to honor the top fifteen entries. It is our pleasure to honor them as the quality of the kolus and the effort behind it are really praise worthy.

I would like to thank Mr.Shyama Sasthri, who is our chief guest today for taking his time to be in our midst. Mr.Shyama Sasthriis the descendent of the legendary musical trinity of the same name, a scholar and one of the main priests of the famous Shri Kamakshi temple in Kanchipuram, Mr.Shyama is an appropriate person to talk and honor the winners on this occasion. A detailed introduction of the chief guest will be done later.

I would like to briefly touch upon our activities, Most of you may be quite familiar with them, but for the benefit of all, I would mention them in brief. Chennai Live News primarily focusses on News and features on awide variety of subjects. We bring out Specials on many occasions, we find a wide patronage for them. We have a dedicated section for Education, sponsored by Rajalakshmi Engineering College. We also have off-line activities, such as taking part in conducting On-line Journalism courses for Vaishnava College and SIET College. We feel our active involvement in this field is our small contribution to the society.

I am delighted to welcome the audience, mainly the award winners and participants of the kolucontest. The large number of participants and the ever increasing quality of the kolus have certainly encouraged us.

We also welcome our viewers, who have not participated in the contest but have taken the trouble to be present here.We also welcome our friends and well-wishers, who are anywayour viewers.

I, once again, welcome all to this awards  function.
