Amjad Ali Khan wins award

Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan has been presented the Mallikarjun Mansur award in recognition of his achievements. “I deem it a great honour bestowed on me. It is a big award for me,” said the Padma Vibushan awardee at a function at Dharwad.

Amjad Ali Khan Khan showered praise on the cultural heritage of Dharwad, which he said has patronised music in a big way and urged Rajasekhara Mansur, son of legendary Hindustani singer Mallikarjun Mansur, who presented the award, to continue his father's legacy.

Instituted by the Karnataka government and carrying a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a citation, it was earlier bestowed on vocalists Kishori Amonkar, Pandit Jasraj and Dr Balamuralikrishna.

Amjad Ali Khan played his instrument in his inimitable style after the felicitation function, enthralling music-lovers.
