Rare surgery performed at Mehta’s Hospitals

A complicated and rare orthopaedic surgery was performed on a male patient (50) recently at Mehta’s Hospitals. The surgery was successfully carried out by a team of Doctors and paramedics led by Dr. Ashok Sunil Gavaskar and Dr. Parthasarathy Srinivasan, orthopaedic surgeons.

Addressing the media, Dr. Parthasarathy Srinivasan said this surgery was to replace the elbow of a man whose diagnosis and treatment was not done correctly earlier by the doctors he consulted before coming to Mehta’s Hospitals.

Dr. Srinivasan added, “Elbow replacement is not as commonly performed in India as compared to knee and hip replacement surgeries because of lower prevalence of elbow arthritis in the elderly. This means that expertise for elbow replacement surgery is not widely available and requires special skills and training to achieve good long term outcomes. The procedure is indicated for patients suffering from arthritis related elbow pain in young, mid-age adults and certain fractures in the elderly.

Mr.... came to us with advanced inflammatory arthritis of his left elbow which had crippled his daily activities over the past 2 years. He successfully underwent a Conrad - Murray total elbow replacement at Dr. Mehta hospital. Now he has already started to reap the benefits of a pain free elbow after 2 years of agonising pain and is on the road to fast recovery.”

Dr. N. Kannan, Medical Director, Mehta’s Hospitals said, “Ours is a multi speciality hospital has successfully conducted over 250,000 advanced surgeries and 100s of successful transplants. With over 8 decades of expertise and experience in healthcare, we have helped heal patients across generations. Our focus on consumer health, safety and infection control has helped us deliver top quality clinical outcomes consistently and ensured that we helped heal over tens of millions of our patients over the last few decades.”
