Rotary Club of Madras East sponsors Vocational Excellence centre

 t.

Thiru K. Pandiarajan,Hon’ble Minister for Tamil Official Language, Tamil Culture & Archaeology, Govt of TN inaugurated The Rotary Club of Madras East’s “Vocational Excellence Centre” in association at Thoraipakkam today. Rs 35 Lakhs has been spent on the Infrastructure setup from Rotary Club of Madras East Trust. The total investment in this project will be around Rs 1 cr which will help the underprivileged youth.

The new Vocational Excellence Centre at Thorapakkam will be like the earlier one at Bheemannapet and bring the community the much needed practical education. Besides, the effort at trying to mould a responsible citizen is what endears Rotarians to the programme so very dearly.  There are many examples of individuals coming out of the community college embracing success and wanting to give back to the community that propped them where they are today.

Rtn. B S Purshotham,President, RCME said “This centre is founded on the principles of placing scarce resources within reach of the needy. After analyzing the demand data we found that there was a great need for trained personnel in the areas of Plumbing, Tailoring, and Software Development.”

He further added, “The club already runs a vocational centre at the Bhemmannapet Community College for the past 19 years. We have imparted training in Baking and Confectionery, Para Medical courses, Lab assistant’s course, Computer hardware maintenance, Spoken English etc.  So far 1100 children have passed out of the College and we have a success rate of 88 % in job placements. The intent is to run courses that have the power to sustain themselves and stay relevant over a reasonably long time.”

Complementing the president and members of the rotary club Mr. Pandiarajansaid, “Education and training are the two corner stones to make a successful career..” He said that the Government of Tamilnadu will support the club in any of its activities which reach out to the poorer sections of the society.”

The industry partners who have come together in this project are

•          Plumbing alongside industry partner Kohler

•          Pump repair and maintenance program by industry partner Grundfos

•          Seamstress course alongside industry partner Indian Terrain

•          Software Development alongside industry partner FreshWorks

Each discipline is curated to train 150 students over a 1year period when supplementary courses like Spoken English, Etiquette and Ethics at the Work Place are going to be taught to get a well rounded individual. Value Education is provided by Mahindra Pride to ensure that the candidates not only are skillful but have socially significant qualities like sincerity at work, loyalty towards the employer, working with a customer focused work ethic, etc., that would make today's youth readily employable
