Smart India Hackathon 2017 - REC bagged First Place

Students from Rajalakshmi Engineering College finished winners in the recently concluded Smart India Hackathon 2017 organized by Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Smart India Hackathon 2017 billed as the World’s biggest hackathon event was a pan India 36 hour nonstop digital programming competition. The participating teams simultaneously competed from across 33 locations in India to offer digital yet sustainable innovative solutions to solve real time challenges faced by the nation. The Smart India Hackathon 2017 posed 500+ problem statements under different categories to technology students from all over India. The students were challenged to think out-of-the-box and offer innovative ideas to build smart applications which would help address some of the daunting problems faced by India in categories such as education, energy, urban & rural development, aviation & shipping, transport, law & justice, skill development & entrepreneurship, defence, tourism, etc. 


 A team of students comprising  Tharun P, Vicknesh Selvamani, Yaseen Hussain A, Janar Priyanka A, Kavi Arasu and  led by Chahat Aggarwal, from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Rajalakshmi Engineering College, Chennai took part in the finals of this Hackathon event at Ahmedabad and bagged the First Place among the 50 competing finalists. The team had developed an innovative solution for Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) for document tracking within ISRO. The team was mentored by faculty members Prof Priya Vijay and Prof. K. Sibi . ISRO  Chairman Shri A.S  Kiran Kumar handed over the trophy and certificates to the proud winners and also rewarded the team with a prize money of Rs. One lakh

Another team of students from the same Institution and representing Department of Information Technology Yogeswaran, Tasbiya, Srinivasan, Vignesh, Sabareesh, Sowthamini developed a project titled -A security device for women’ and it finished as one of  the top 6 six teams among 56 other finalists in the same event
