Titan Company sets up Skilling Center in Chennai

Titan Company Limited launched a first-of-its-kind skilling center in Chennai, inaugurated by Mr. Bhaskar Bhat. Managing Director, Titan Company Limited. This center will offer job market relevant training programs to skill less privileged youth and place them in jobs. The Center which will be the Hub of the Hub-and-Spoke model will be run and managed by Mahindra Pride School.  While the centre itself will skill and place students in various courses, the model envisages extension of employability skills to students in Government ITI’s and also Engineering students from Anna University , Government colleges. A formal tie up in this direction is being made.


The Centre was inaugurated in the presence of dignitaries from Department of Education and Training, Anna University, Mahindra Pride School, CII, Industry representatives  among others. The centre is spread across 3 floors and has a large well-fitted computer lab and a library. While the courses that are currently offered now include, Tally and Retail; courses in CAD, Animation and CCTV (installation, maintenance and image management) will be introduced soon. These will be augmented by more technical and non-technical trades in the future.


Employability Skill development Programs are as follows:


·         Anna University: Train final year engineering students in Aptitude, Communicative English, Life skills, Group Discussion and Interview skills.  This Program which is under the category ‘Employability skills’ is being delivered using technology and has benefitted about 2300 students in the last 2 years.

·         Department of Education and Training: Train final semester ITI students from Government ITI’s in employability skills.  As part of the initiative, Trainers of a selected Region in the State undergo a ‘Train the Trainer’ Program and students of the same Region are trained in Life skills and Interview skills.

Mahindra Pride School, a flagship livelihood development program of the Mahindra Group, has been chosen to be the Implementation Partner for all the above Programs which are delivered to youth in their respective colleges, which will be the spokes.  


The logo for all the above Programs will be called Titan LeAP – Learn-Apply and Progress.


During 2018-19, the Titan LeAP is expected to train 4000 youth across the State of Tamil Nadu.


Mr. Bhaskar Bhat, Managing Director, Titan Company Limited, said at the inauguration “In the last 30 years, our effort at Titan has been towards giving back to the society, in which ever manner we can. With this skill Centre in Chennai, we aim to reach as many under privileged students as possible to give them an opportunity for a better life. The statistics to show the number of unskilled and unemployed population in our country is extremely alarming. This initiative is Titan’s one of many endeavors to create better employment opportunities in the state.


Skill development of the under-privileged youth is one of the key focus areas of Titan Company Ltd, as part of its CSR initiatives.  With an objective to skill youth who are uneducated - unemployed or educated-unemployed the company aims to help them get job opportunities with better profiles.  This will be done with help from Implementation Partners.
