India’s first creative movement festival organized by GAIT (Grooming Artistic Innovation and Talent), a pioneer in the field of Creative Movement in Education, was held in the city today. It aims at bringing in body and spatial awareness among children since, the need to differentiate between personal space and general space is a concept of key importance in today’s world for children.
The event was inaugurated by renowned dancer, choreographer and cultural activist Dr. Anita Ratnam, at The Music Academy. GAIT aims to encourage young children to discover their creative potential by using their body as a medium of expression.
The theme 'My Space, My Body' was showcased by the students using creative body movements and various forms of expression. The children engaged and enthralled the audience with an emphasis to the theme, using elements of Dance and Theatre. The festival highlighted the unique relationship between arts and culture to reinforce the concepts of space and time. The festival is an initiative towards building awareness about the importance of using creative movement as a learning tool.
High kicks, an all-girl dance ensemble enthralled the audience with their unique act was one of the highlights of the day.
“Being a dancer myself and the Head of GAIT, I’m quite excited to provide this wonderful platform to the students, which I’m sure would help them nurture not just their talent but develop as a better individual too. The theme of the event holds good in today’s time, especially in the kind of society we live in today. The pressure of the society, especially on individual excellence has created unrest in our children which in turn affects their personality. If we are comfortable with our body we are comfortable with who we are. This is one most important aspect to be conveyed to the students for their own well-being and with this event, we are trying to do the same”, says “Preeti Sunderajan, CEO- GAIT (Grooming Artistic Innovation and Talent), Fitkids India Pvt Ltd
