Vimala’s ukkali sweet


Bengal gram – 200 gm

Sugar – 500 gm

Grated coconut – 1 cup

Cardamom powder - 1 teaspoon

Broken cashewnuts – 20 gm

Ghee or oil – 100 gm


Soak the Bengal gram for 40 minutes. Drain the water completely and grind it to fine rava state – meaning not into a paste.

Keep a thick-bottomed kadai on the stove and heat it. Pour ghee or oil and heat it. Add cashews to it. Fry to brown. Add the ground Bengal gram. Stir it till it is cooked well.

Remove from the stove and allow it to cool for 30 minutes. Then add grated coconut, cardamom powder and sugar. Stir it together when it is warm and serve.
